Last Monday, Yanan (16), Giona (11) and I volunteered to serve for 2 hours at the outreach table of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Purdue University Calumet. Called The Story Project, it is “a visual conversation starter meant to reach out to creative persons and artists through a mural display of art depicting the stories of Jesus and of artists creating story through visual art, writing, dancing, music, and more.”
At first, we did not know what to do. We just watched the IVCF student leaders do it. Then, came the time for us to do it ourselves. I approached passersby and asked them if they have 5 minutes to checkout the artwork. Many opted not to do so, but there were a few who did and whom I turned over to the student leaders.
Soon, it was time for Yanan to do the sharing. A middle-easterner agreed to check out the artwork. I introduced him to Yanan, who then went on to interact with the international student about the artwork, leading to a conversation about Christ and His redeeming work.
After that, Yanan saw a Chinese student who attends the IVCF “All Nations” Bible Studies. He also shared Christ to him using the artwork.
Meanwhile, Giona was greatly encouraged to see his brother share Christ to others. It is now her goal to also learn how to evangelize and do it.
I am happy and thankful beyond words. Praise the Lord!
