By Pastor Glem Melo I am deeply touched and encouraged by the following endorsement letter from a regional director and church planter* of Mission to the World (MTW), the international missions arm of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA):
Glem’s sense of call is clear and strategic for the advancement of the gospel in the context of the mission of the global church. A Biblical, Reformed and Presbyterian church in Manila will answer a growing need for a faithful ministry there as well as providing a strategic base for training and deploying workers, whether ordained or non-ordained, to the mission fields of the Philippines and beyond. His plan is to equip Filipino Christians for service towards the completion and perfection of the Church in areas where there is no church. The Filipino church has a unique opportunity for ministry among Unreached People Groups (UPGs) that is unprecedented and without parallel in our day. She has access not only to the isolated unreached peoples of Mindanao but also to many other needy areas in Asia and the 10/40 Window. Filipino workers are everywhere in this region. As lay people become equipped they can form bases for Christian witness established as chaplaincies and, in some cases, churches. Glem’s ministry will be at the tip of the spear on these vital front lines. Glem has a significant drive and aptitude for study and these gifts suit his sense of call to serve the Church as a pastor-scholar. He is not satisfied with mediocrity and strives for excellence in ministry. He will make excellent use of his training in the equipping of others. Glem demonstrates godly leadership in his home. No quality is more telling of his call to leadership in the household of God. He has a sincere desire to submit himself personally and his ministry to biblical oversight. Thus he has not only denounced autonomous thinking as a biblical theologian but also autonomous practice as a biblical minister. His desire to be equipped is not to “lord it over” others but rather to more thoroughly submit himself to Scripture and to the collective wisdom of the historic Church in order to serve others. I have been a beneficiary of Glem’s ministry and I am deeply grateful to God for his kindness in bringing our lives together in this sacred endeavor.
Being supervised by a committee under PCA’s Potomac Presbytery and working most closely with the denomination’s Mission to The World have been and continues to be a steady source of great comfort, counsel, instruction, direction and edification for me, my family and Open Eyes Mission. Please pray that the Holy Spirit would help and enable me to fulfill God’s calling in order that I may honor Christ’s sacrifice and also the love and support of His dear servants, such as our MTW partner-adviser and all the members of our International Oversight Committee.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ…” (Colossians 4:2-3, NIV).
