Zamboanga is still a danger zone because of civilian symphatizers of the defeated Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) who set off bombs outside ground zero. The dangers and troubles that our Christian brothers and sisters there face everyday is vividly depicted in a message that I recently received:
Zamboanga is still unsafe because of the MNLF symphatizers. They bomb communities outside ground zero. This poses more dangers to regular citizens, and necessitates more caution and alertness from us.
Little by little, it’s “back to work” in our city. Yet we are all a bit paranoid. When messages are received about suspected bomb threats, people run away immediately. Banks and fast food stores are open until 12:00 noon only. By 3:00 pm there are no more people on the streets, and establishments like hospitals and drug stores are closed. This is why we endure standing and waiting in long lines when we need to buy medicine.
Thank you for your prayers. We hope that all these fightings and bombings will be over soon. We still cannot trust our Muslim neighbors. But we must pray for them to open their minds, and that they would hear the gospel and accept Jesus as the true and only son of God who can save us.
We trust that God has plans and that something great is going to happen in our city. Christians here show patience and continue to help evacuees, 99% of whom are Muslims.
Let us pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in Zamboanga:
- That the Lord will protect and preserve them and their children for His kingdom and glory
- That the Holy Spirit will continue to use them to share Christ’s love in word and deed to the 99% Muslim evacuees in the city
