Long-Term, Weekly Ministry to Flood Victims-Survivors Continues

Six month and 15 days after Tropical Storm Washi (local name: Sendong) brought death and devastation to our city, more than 20 thousand families are still living and suffering in tent cities and evacuation center.

By God’s grace alone, our mission continues to preach and teach God’s word and serve more than 300 displaced families in tangible ways. Weekly visitation and Bible studies are conducted. Water purifiers, food, clothing, medicine, school supplies, stuff toys and other goods have been distributed. And we are not letting down on our “Relief to Rehabilitation to Church Planting” Program for flood victims-survivors.

With the beginning of the new school year, our ministry to those living in the tent cities and permanent resettlement sites in Calaanan takes on a new phase. Alarmed by rising gang activities and teen crimes in the area, the principal of P.N. Roa High School requested our PROTECT Network to conduct Biblical Values Instruction Classes to all their 1,051 students. Gladly and without hesitation, we responded and rose up to the challenge. Classes started last week. The program includes visitation and evangelism.

Please pray for this new phase of long-term ministry to flood victims-survivors. May the Lord work faith in the hearts of many. May He use them to build His church in tent cities and permanent resettlement sites. And may He raise up pastors and church planters among them.

As always, we request you to please continue to support our mission. Together, we are making a huge

difference in the lives of many here in Mindanao. And by God’s grace and power alone, we can still reach more children and families, train more pastors and church planters, and plant more churches in depressed areas and unreached communities. Please deposit your financial donations to our mission’s bank account:

About Glem Melo

I am a believer and follower of Christ, happily married, and have 3 wonderful kids. I am the founder and CEO of Open Eyes Mission, under the care of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) Chicago Metro Presbytery, pastoral intern at Faith Church in Dyer, Indiana, and studying Master of Divinity at Mid-America Reformed Seminary. The Bible teaches that God is real, man is sinful, hell is real, and Jesus is our only hope of salvation. I believe these truths with all of my heart, and I hope to help others learn of them as well. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16) May God give you grace and peace.
