Long-term Ministry to 60 Family Flood Victims

The 12 family-victims of Typhoon Sendong (Washi) that our mission adopted were moved to an old government building. We have visited the site and met with the camp manager several times already.

  1. Though dilapidated, the old building is so much better than tents. Therefore, the 12 families do not need tent improvement anymore.
  2. The camp has a total of 60 families. It will create division and jealousy if we only serve the 12 families. Therefore, we revised our original plan to include all 60 families.

Based on our consultative meetings, studies and analysis, these families will live in the evacuation center for 1 year before they get their new home from the government. Therefore, we have to support them for a year. Specifically, we want to ensure that their living conditions are improved and that they are protected from disease and other dangers.

The following is a list of our activities:

  1. Regular visitation of each family
  2. Spiritual and psychosocial support sessions for parents and children
  3. Weekly group dinner and fellowship
  4. Distribution of water filters
  5. Distribution of a weekly food ration of 10 kilos of rice, beans, meat, vegetables, etc.
  6. Distribution of appropriate medicines for the ill
  7. Distribution of school supplies for the children

Please pray for us as we continue to serve flood victim-survivors in our city.

About Glem Melo

I am a believer and follower of Christ, happily married, and have 3 wonderful kids. I am the founder and CEO of Open Eyes Mission, under the care of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) Chicago Metro Presbytery, pastoral intern at Faith Church in Dyer, Indiana, and studying Master of Divinity at Mid-America Reformed Seminary. The Bible teaches that God is real, man is sinful, hell is real, and Jesus is our only hope of salvation. I believe these truths with all of my heart, and I hope to help others learn of them as well. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16) May God give you grace and peace.
